How do I make a donation to United Fund of Cumberland County
if I work for the federal, state, county or city government?
* Federal and State- send donations directly to the United Fund
* City- has established payroll deductions for the United Fund
* County- Send donations directly to the United Fund.
I work for a living and pay my own way. I’m not going to use these services.
Why should I support them?
* Many of our agencies are what we call “the least of these” and other agencies make our community
a better place to live; examples would be the Boy and Girl Scouts, 4-H and the American Red Cross.

Why conduct a United Fund of Cumberland County campaign?
* The United Fund was created to be an easy way to provide financial support to local non-profit agencies. By donating to the United Fund you help 33 non-profit agencies.
Where does the money go once United Fund of Cumberland County receives it?
* The United Fund disperses 89% of your gift quarterly into our partner agencies. The other 11% is used to educate our community about the work and services provided by our 36 partner agencies, pay operating expenses, and buy educational materials . The United Fund has one part-time employee and a volunteer board of directors that do the rest of the work.
What is the benefit of giving to the United Fund of Cumberland County annual campaign?
* You are helping the agencies make a difference. You are helping people improve their lives in our community. You never know when you, a family member or friend might need the very services provided by our agencies.
How does United Fund of Cumberland County determine how much money member agencies receive?
* Through our Allocation Process 501 (c) (3) agencies may apply for funding. 501 (c) (3) means an agency has applied for and obtained recognition of tax exemption by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Agencies submit an application stating whom their agency serves, the impact it has on our community and what needs they have they would like the United Fund to help with. Each agency that applies is assigned to one of our allocation teams. Team members meet with agency representatives and go over their needs for the coming year. The teams make a funding recommendation at a meeting of all the allocation teams. This group makes a recommendation for funding that the United Fund Board approves.

* Yes, they do.

What does the United Fund of Cumberland County do?
* The United Funds primary goal is to raise funds for local non-profit agencies. We also provide information to our community of the services provided by our partner agencies.
What is the United Fund campaign?
* The United Fund Campaign is designed to involve the whole community in one fund raising effort. The Campaign begins in the fall of the year to meet the funding needs for our partner agencies for the coming year.
What does the term “501(c) (3)” mean?
* A 501 (c ) (3) organization is simply a nonprofit organization (usually incorporated) that has applied for and obtained recognition of tax exemption by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
