The Dimpled Globe Awards

The History: The Dimpled Globe Awards (DGA) began in 2005 as an annual newspaper column in theGlade Sun written by Larry Backus. Larry, his wife Nancy, and his editor Clayta Richards, agreed that something more should be done for the deserving recipients of the awards. Pauline Sherrer, Publisher/editor of the Crossville Chronicle family of newspapers, and the Fairfield Glade Community Club Board, General Manager, and Director of Operations were approached to sponsor an annual banquet for honorees. The first banquet was held in May of 2007. The banquet was fun, educational, and inspiring. The staff at the new Glade Conference & Community Center delivered a great meal and the banquet setting was ideal.

The United Fund and DGA Committee: In 2008 the Dimpled Globe Awards (DGA) was accepted as a Committee of the United Fund of Cumberland County. The DGA Committee is currently composed of eleven volunteer members. Their primary function is to review nominations and research/select the annual DGA honorees from candidates submitted by Cumberland County residents. The Committee and its sub-committees also develops and plans the annual DGA banquet. Committee members are nominated by the Committee based on their knowledge of various areas or constituencies of the county and serve voluntarily. Sub-committee membership of the DGA Committee is open to all Cumberland County residents who are invited to volunteer. Nominations for awards may be made by any resident of Cumberland County.
