BOND BROTHERS SCHOLARSHIP

The Bond Brothers Scholarship was established in 2022 to honor the life and legacy of brothers Michael Travis Bond and Scott Miller Bond, sons of Glenda and Randy Bond, and grandsons of Glenn S. Miller, the second Executive Director of the United Fund of Cumberland County. Both Michael and Scott were graduates of Cumberland County High School and were well known for their unique personalities, their love of life, their resilience and fierce perseverance throughout the disability community.  Despite their significant intellectual and developmental challenges, Michael and Scott were active participants in many inclusive activities in our community.    

 

Scholarships in their memory are awarded annually to graduating seniors or non-traditional students in Cumberland County who are currently enrolled in or planning to enroll in a college, university, community college, or trade school within the year of their application.​

SANDRA O. CHESTERTON EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP​

The Sandra O. Chesterton Scholarship was established in 2026 to help students who are first in their families to further their education beyond high school.  Mrs. Chesterton has dedicated her life to education, striving to help others reach their potential.  Mrs. Chesterton firmly believes that education can change the course of a family's future, personally recognizing the power of opportunity, encouragement and investing in the next generation.  These educational scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis.

NANCY J. HYDER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Nancy J. Hyder Memorial Scholarship was established in 2026 by her nieces upon her death that same year.  Ms. Hyder was a life-long resident of Cumberland County, an educator, an administrator and coach in the Cumberland County school system.  Ms. Hyder holds the distinction of being the first woman elected to the Cumberland County Commission serving in that capacity for nearly 36 years.  At the time of her death, Ms. Hyder was also an active member of the United Fund of Cumberland County Board of Directors, sitting on the Scholarship and Board Development committees.  She is remembered as saying, "I have always been drawn to those kids that I could help the most."  Ms. Hyder was known throughout the community for her loyal friendships, limitless generosity, giving freely of her time and energy without ever seeking recognition in return.  Continuation of this scholarship will be dependent on forthcoming donations in her name.
